Another MacKenzie-Childs-style makeover

My sister-in-law wanted her oak cupboard "kenzied-up" a bit...

I used MacKenzie-Childs as an inspiration and here is the final product:

And here it is in her foyer:

A Birdhouse with MacKenzie-Childs Flair

I need a birdhouse in the backyard.  There is a row of tall Arbovitae behind our patio and the birds are having lots of fun building nests and preparing to lay their eggs.  There are robins, barn swallows and this little one:

I went to the craft store and found this wooden birdhouse:

You probably know where my mind was - "I can paint it in checks!!" So I  used MacKenzie-Childs as my inspiration :

I will hang this from a small shepherds hook by the bushes!

How to Make a Topiary - with a Mackenzie-Childs Flair

Topiaries are very simple to make and inexpensive.  They can be quite expensive to purchase, so I made my own:

These topiaries, from Mackenzie-Childs, are priced from $45.00 - $175.00 (click here to view):

To make a topiary, you will need a flower pot, styrofoam or oasis, a dowel, some moss and a boxwood ball:

I paint the flower pots in stripes or checks, some have little ball feet, some don't!

The procedure is simple: Shove some oasis into a flower pot, paint the dowel brown, glue the boxwood ball onto the dowel and then glue that into oasis.  Cover the oasis with some moss.  It's that simple!

Here is a tiny topiary.  I bought the base at Michaels and I painted the pot and tied on a M-C ribbon:

Before and After Chippendale Mirror #2

Do you remember this makeover?

A client brought me this mirror and wanted it painted in a similar manner, same colors.
One big difference is that the second mirror was plastic, but with many coats of primer, it turned out just as pretty!

Baby Shower Favors

Remember the engagement and wedding and  baby announcement of my niece?  Well, the baby shower is coming up and I made the favors.

These are large tealight candles:

and I wrapped them in cello bags with 2 different tags attached:

I also made marshmallow roses.  This was so easy.
All you need is pink marshmallows, lollipop sticks and pink candy pearls....

...leaves with wire and cello bags.

I dipped the top of the marshmallows in water and pressed them into the pearls:

I poked a lollipop stick into the bottom, wrapped them in cello bags, twisted the wired leaves around the stick, and tied a ribbon on each.

I placed them into little oval boxes to be placed on the tables:

I made 40 of each of the favors and it took very little time - all for a special niece and to celebrate the anticipation of my first "great niece"!

Spring window treatments....

I got a little energetic and made new window treatments for my living room and dining room.  These are quick and easy to make and you can see tutorials on how I did it here:

I wanted to bring some "spring green" into the room... I will be on the hunt for some accent pieces this week.

This is the old dining room window treatment.  This one has been up for the four years we have lived in the house, so I was ready for a change there, too!

A local fabric store is going out of business and I was able to make this for only $6:

This is made in a similar manner as the other treatment, but with a much wider board.

Now that the sun is finally shining, I MUST get to painting some of the furniture that has been stored in my cellar all winter!
