Cigar Boxes

I'll begin by saying that "No, I do not smoke cigars!", but I do love the wooden boxes that house them:
I have some that are over 40 years old and some that are brand new. I recently took one and painted it Heirloom White. I adhered some old sheet music to the top and sides:
I sanded the edges to "shabby it up" a bit:
I added some embellishments (burlap scrap, key, handmade booklet of paper, etc) and stamped some script and inspirational words on it:
And I am sending this to one of my readers - might it be you?

The Candlestick/Clock Table

Remember last week when this....
turned into this....
Well, as I was lightening it up, I had an I bought this in the sale section of Hobby Lobby:
I glazed the candlestick stick a bit more to warm it up....
I took the clock apart....
and adhered it to the candlestick...
Now I have a cute little wine table....

White wine, white cheese and white linens!

I recently purchased these vintage linens (small tablecloth and napkins) and would like to give them to one of you...
So, simply leave a comment for one chance, follow me for a second chance and "brag about it" for a 3rd chance!
They are hand stitched with a few worn spots, but if you can give them a new life, they could be yours!

$3.50 and a little paint...and a GIVEAWAY!

Don't you just LOVE Hobby Lobby when they have their 90% off sale?
I can't even imagine paying $35.00 for this!
But for only $3.50 - why not? I knew I could paint it to soften up the "old world" look.
I sprayed it with Heirloom White ...
...and glazed it with a warm sand color.
and it matches my decor much better!
But as I write this post, I have more plans for this candlestick...stay tuned...I am on the hunt for a tabletop to adhere to it!! Wouldn't it make a cute little end table?

NOW, how about a giveaway?
I recently bought this pretty vintage card tablecloth with 5 cocktail napkins. They are hand stitched (no stains, but the fabric is worn in spots).
If you would like these, or can somehow bring them "back to life", leave a comment to be entered. Follow me for a 2nd chance, and "brag about it" and you will have a 3rd chance.
I will pick a winner on Saturday, April 2!

Pottery Barn accessories

I love Pottery Barn - who doesn't?
I have many PB artificial plants around the house and I just bought one of their herbs.

This basil plant is sitting in a basket on my kitchen table and I keep wanting to smell it!
Do you think they make "basil scented spray"?

I also found these adorable "clock" napking rings - 4/$1.29 - what a deal!! So I bought the last 3 sets, of course!

Time for dinner ... Tomato-Basil Pasta!

It's the candle's fault...

I have been using battery operated candles for the past 2 years, but I miss the immediate scents from a real candle. This one is so fresh and clean and reminds me of fresh air:
It has the prettiest color, too. A color I want to paint my laundry room:
The softest aqua color that I can find...
A color that is soothing and will remind me of spring...
Something similar to a robin's egg...
And then I need to find a painter to paint the room for me!

The Easter Tree

I remember when I was young, my mother hiked me out into the woods, during one damp, spring day, to find the "perfect" Easter Tree and moss. We came home and I "blew out" a dozen eggs so that I could paint the shells to decorate the tree.

My memories of that day are not pleasant. I hated the hike into the damp cold woods for a stupid branch, the moss was stinky and dirty and I had a headache for days from "blowing out" the eggs.

I remember thinking "When I grow up, I will never make my kids do something like this".

And I grew up and had kids, and I made them do it!

I now have a "fake Easter Tree" and every year, when I pull it out, I think of how we make our children do things that we said we would NEVER make them do!!

And that is when I realize that I have turned into my mother!
And if you have never "blown out an egg", try it:
Poke a hole at each end of a fresh egg with a small nail.
Place your mouth over one end and blow into it until you think your head will explode.
Make sure you do this over a bowl!
Eventually the egg will "plop" out the other end.
You now have an empty shell to decorate:

Ideas for painting bunnies....

Over the weekend I pulled out a few Easter decorations.
Here are a few wooden bunnies I painted years ago, each has an individual personality:

Carter's shoes...

My son-in-law, Ray, will probably never let me babysit again:
Carter wanted to go out and play and he chose to put on these shoes - why argue with an 20 month old?
